WP5.AZ1 - Development of more selective fishing gear

The main objective of this action is to define the technical corrections to be applied to fishing gear to ensure its sustainability in terms of greater selectivity. Researchers are seeking to identify, in consultation with the associations, the technical possibilities of intervention. In the future they will focus on field testing of the identified solutions in certain fundamental fisheries such as trawling and long-lines, in order to achieve a substantial reduction of incidental catch of species, protected species (bycatch) and discards. Ultimately the evaluation of the effectiveness of technical solutions tested will be carried out by studying the survival of fish species escaped capture (fish survival).
