WP3.AZ1 - Energy efficiency and environmental impact

The action aims to rationalize the cost-effectiveness through the integration of systems and subsystems which make up the on board energy chain (propulsion system, auxiliary generators, fishing equipment, cold chain etc..). The definition of the optimal shapes of hull from the point of view of reducing the resistance to motion is a prime target for the reduction of energy consumption. However, consideration of the effects related to the dynamic stability and therefore strength at sea are priority objectives in order to increase the working operation and safety standards. The formulation and solution of a problem of multi-objective optimization is used to identify the best possible compromise between different requirements, resulting in a complete integration between the different design options. In addition, attention is devoted to the improvement of hydro-acoustic behavior of the whole "fishing system" and the reduction underwater noise.

Currently, the hybrid is the heart propulsion system of fishing vessels with high efficiency motors using alternative fuel with a lower environmental impact. The action is designed to introduce advanced technologies for the reduction of greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide and the harmful emissions (PM, NOx, HC and CO), studying both internal combustion engines using alternative fuels or the application of diesel-electric technology for marine propulsion.
